What changed for ACA subsidies in 2026?

400% FPL cap reinstated
If your income exceeds 400% FPL you are no longer eligible for any premium tax credits.
Higher contributions required
Required contributions are now 2.1%–9.96% of income, up from 0%–8.5% in 2021–2025.
No more $0 premiums
Even households at 100–150% FPL now pay 2.1%–4.19% of income toward premiums.
Some states have relief
CA, CO, CT, MD, MA, NM, and WA offer state-level subsidies to partially offset the increase.

From 2021 through 2025, the American Rescue Plan Act and Inflation Reduction Act provided enhanced premium tax credits — including $0 premiums for low-income households and no income cap. These are now expired. Use the calculator below if you need to look up what your costs would have been under the old rules.
